The self-less individual

The self-less or ego-less individual does not pursue self-interested goals; they have no such selfish desires. They pursue instead, only those interests that benefit others and the whole. And this is how a disciple of Jesus in A Course in Miracles learns to live their lives, by turning to God’s Voice as the Teacher who directs and guides us through our daily undertakings. His guidance in decision-making brings about solutions where everyone gains as opposed to the selfish individual who struggles just to have their own needs met.

Those who practice the teachings of Jesus in A Course in Miracles undergo a complete spiritual metamorphosis, renewal or rebirth. Strangers, other human beings, are no longer strangers but friends and brothers. They are now ourselves not apart from us, and our sensitivity to and identification with their distress compels us to act to help them. We are one family under God and to love God is to love our brothers and ourselves. This is a basis for charitable efforts of all kinds in the home, in the family, in the neighbourhood and in the greater community. The recognition of suffering obliges us to take action to alleviate it, to send relief overseas or to find shelter for the homeless. We cannot love God without caring for His Son who lives in everyone.

“I am your resurrection and your life. You live in me because you live in God. And everyone lives in you, as you live in everyone. Can you, then, perceive unworthiness in a brother and not perceive it in yourself?”  T – 11.VI.4

“The Christ as revealed to you now has no past, for He is changeless, and in His changelessness lies your release. For if He is as He was created, there is no guilt in Him. No cloud of guilt has risen to obscure Him, and He stands revealed in everyone you meet because you see Him through Himself.”  T – 13.VI.3
